The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has revoked the operating licence of Nicco Movers 1 Socco and ordered the immediate suspension of all its services due to safety concerns after the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.

Nicco Movers operates 33-seater and 46-seater buses along the Thika Superhighway, serving routes between Nairobi CBD, Githurai, Kimbo, Juja, and Thika town.

In a notice issued on Friday, June 12, NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa directed all vehicles operating under the Sacco to stop operations immediately. He also instructed police officers to impound any vehicles found operating after the ban.

This decision followed investigations into the death of 19-year-old Eugene Mutuku, a KMTC Yatta Campus student, who died in an incident involving a Nicco Movers matatu along Thika Road. Reports later revealed that the student was involved in an argument over bus fare before falling from the vehicle.

According to the NTSA, a review of the Socco’s operations revealed serious safety concerns.

“We also note that vehicles operating under the Sacco are unsafe and pose a danger to road users,” NTSA said

The authority said that Sacco’s management had lost control of its fleet, lacked adequate safety measures, and had failed to address major safety issues. They also mentioned that the suspension is part of their efforts to enhance road safety and protect members of the public.
